STARTER HOME ENERGY AUDIT KIT
version 1.2 (published December 16, 2009)

Contents:
----------
You should have received the following files in the kit (zip file):

starter energy audit guide.pdf
energy audit sheet.pdf
cost workbook.xls
cost workbook example 1.xls
read me.txt (this file)

What you need to open the files
--------------------------------

-a pdf reader, such as Adobe Acrobat reader, available from the adobe website (www.adobe.com)

-an xls file "reader". An xls file is a Microsoft Excel Spreadsheet. You can open in in Microsoft Excel, which is part of the Microsoft Office Suite. In case you are wondering, you do not have to have Office installed to view and use the sheet. Here are a couple of free options for you.

	1. Download and install the Excel Viewer from Microsoft (office.microsoft.com/downloads/2000/xlviewer.aspx)

	2. Download and install the Open Office Suite. It is free, open source, and will read the Excel file just fine.

What next?
----------

This is the "starter" version of the energy audit kt offered through energyaudits.net. It covers the concepts involved in a basic energy audit, and provides you a very solid foundation how to start saving money on your energy bills.

Of course, if you are interested in taking the next step and learning more about energy auditing, including more about finding and fixing heat loss, measuring inefficiencies, and calculating the money lost when it comes to HVAC problems, I recommend upgrading and downloading the "Professional" or premium version of the kit. It contains more calculators, more information on advanced audits, and teaches you techniques that will truly rival what the "pros" use to find energy holes in your home.

Enjoy, and be sure to email me your feedback or questions.
